A Children's Book for people of all MIXES!

Book Reviews

"This book will be great for other mixed me's and equally important for those who are all one race so they understand that all God's children come into this world to be a "who" and not a "what." I love how the author hints that each person has an unique destiny that is dependent not on race but on individuality, unique giftedness, and humanness." Marlee Huber

This book was a gift to my 9 year old son. My son has had questions about why he has to be brown. I was shocked when he had asked these questions and I never knew how to answer them in the way he needed. This book gave my son and I answers. This book is not only great for the children but also the parents. I highly recommend this book!!

As a half white, half black girl growing up in the 80's in Indiana, I WISH I had a book like this. I had many confusing moments in my childhood relating back to being mixed. I felt like I stood out, instead of being unique. My second grade teacher actually told me that I was adopted, I went home crying/yelling at my mom asking her why she didn't tell me she was my real mommy. My very white, red-headed mama was beyond upset with my teacher/principal. This charming little book shows a beautiful tale of a light-skinned, dark-haired girl who struggles with the "am I white? am I black? what am I?" questions.I absolutely love little Mixie and that the story makes her realize she is special. I would personally like to thank the author of this book. I love reading this story to my 2 year old daughter, who is also half white, half black.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would have appreciated it when my mixed children were young. I particularly loved the page that was left blank for a child to draw his/her own image. Cuddle up with your children or grandchildren and share together this warm, loving, book.

As a mother of a "mixed me" daughter, I am grateful to see a book like this offered to "mixed children". The author's parents have done an exemplary job in encouraging their daughter's security in who she was created to be! Now she in turn, can pass this valuable message onto others of mixed ethnic backgrounds, so they can become all they were created to be by God! Kudos to Ms. Cattledge for forging the path of encouraging works of art for the children of this day and the days to come, who share a similar background. I look forward to sharing this book with my grandchildren, who will be "mixed" and who will become all they were created to be! The character Mixie exudes confidence and inner beauty that is sure to be passed on to young readers alike. The young illustrator is to be commended for a job well done in beautifully making this book come to life with her gifted artwork!
